The Arkansas River Delta is where American blues music took root. The artists born and raised here, in Sherrill, Pine Bluff, England, Altheimer, Wabbaseka, and the communities along the river, created a sound that traveled far beyond Arkansas. Most of them left. Many of them became legends. Almost none of them were recognized in the places where it all began.
The Arkansas River Delta Blues Trail exists to change that. Permanent historical markers, placed in the communities where these artists lived, worked, and performed, create a lasting public record. The Trail is their homecoming.
Each marker on the Arkansas River Delta Blues Trail tells a full story. Through permanent signage and QR-enabled digital content, visitors learn not just who the artist was, but what their music meant, where it came from, and what it gave the world.
The Trail is built on original research, community partnership, and a commitment to getting the history right. These are not tourist installations. They are permanent records, placed with care, in the communities that deserve the credit.
Recognizing the historical Arkansas River Delta Blues legends will be a fundamental part of the initial launch. This includes fundraising to place the markers in their honor and create community events along the trail, showcasing local blues musical talents while paying homage to those who have forged the path before.
Help fund the next marker. Every marker placed is a permanent record of a person or place that shaped American music.
Your contribution goes directly to research, marker fabrication, and the community events that honor each honoree, where their story belongs.
